John Redmond “It’s always been a dream of mine to compete in a big promotion like Bellator”

Combat Vision MMA spoke to John Redmond after it was announced he will be making his Bellator promotional debut against Charlie Ward at Bellator 187 on Friday 10th November 2017 at the 3Arena, Dublin.

Thank you for taking the time to speak to Combat Vision MMA, John. It has been announced that you will be fighting Charlie Ward at Bellator 187. Could I ask for your thoughts on making your promotional debut and the fight itself.

I am absolutely thrilled with the announcement. It is the stuff dreams are made of. It has been a long road of ups and downs to get to this point. But I am very happy”

How quickly did this fight and deal come about as there would have been a lot of moving parts.

“I have a really good coach and manager in Andy Ryan. He looks after my fighting affairs and I trust him with my career. He presented the fight while I was on holiday and asked me how would I feel about making my Bellator debut in November – against Charlie Ward. My answer was yes, no questions asked”

Were there any other promotions that you were speaking too or was it more of a case when Bellator came to you and your team it was a done deal.

“There are always people & promoters on to me about different things. But, this was perfect timing and it has always been a dream of mine to fight on a big show like Bellator”

This fight is an all Irish affair, taking place on Irish soil and on a big promotion. Do you feel these are the type of challenges that get you motivated and stoke the competitive fire.

No matter where the fight is or what nationality my opponent is. I prepare the same and I take every fight seriously”

You have had to face a lot of negativity when it comes to you as a fighter. How do you mentally and spiritually deal with that pressure to stay driven on what you want to achieve from MMA.

That type of shite makes me laugh. I am not doing it for anyone else but me. You cannot please everyone”

Your last MMA fight was back in November 2016. What self-improvements have you made to your skill-set and what have you adapted into your current base.

Everyday I am improving to become a better person and fighter. I take my training very seriously and I am always developing new skills”

Focusing on visualization. How do you see this fight going and what can the fans look forward to seeing in this fight.

Fans can look forward to an exciting fight – like all of my fights. I see myself fighting hard in every area and winning”
