Combat Vision MMA spoke to Ross “The Hitman” Houston after it was announced he would be fighting Aaron Khalid at Cage Warriors 87 in Newport, Wales. Ross heads into this fight with a professional record (4-0) and is currently (2-0) with the promotion. His most recent win was at Cage Warriors 82 where he submitted Dylan Mcloughlin in 31 seconds of the first round.
Thank you for speaking to Combat Vision MMA, Ross. Could I get your thoughts on your announced fight with Aaron Khalid at Cage Warriors 87.
“I like the Khalid fight. I asked for it after my last fight on Cage Warriors, Liverpool. I always respect my opponents skills. But, I think he will realise I am too much for him pretty early on in any area”
Aaron heads into this fight undefeated in his last 5 fights. Looking at his performances what have you seen in his fighting style that you will be looking to exploit.
“I have watched some of Khalid’s recent fights. Myself and my coaches know what we are going to work on to get the job done”
Yourself and Aaron head into this fight with submission victories in your pro career. Do you see this fight taking place more on the ground and what are your expectations heading into this fight.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to close the distance and clinch quite early. It has happened in all of my pro fights so far. Wherever the fight takes place, I will be getting a finish”
On your Facebook athlete page there are videos of your workouts with your strength and conditioning coach Gavin Laird. How important has sports performance been to adding more depth to you as a fighter.
“I have been working with Gavin Laird at the Forge gym Inverness for my last 2 fights and I have become a whole different level of athlete since doing so. There hasn’t been any physical exchange in my fights which I haven’t dominated since working with Gav. I feel Khalid will crumble under this”
This will be your 3rd fight with the promotion. You have won your last two by way of first round submission. How much do you see this fight as part of your road map to getting to the top of the Cage Warriors welterweight division.
“This fight will be my 3rd first round finish with Cage Warriors. I will be looking for one of the top welterweights after this fight and then I will have the belt round my waist in 2018”
Could you give our readers any insight into your training camp and will you be working on anything specifically for your opponent.
“Anyone who wants to follow my training for this fight, can do so by checking out my Facebook page Ross Houston MMA or my Snapchat ross_houston”
