Combat Vision MMA were lucky enough to speak to Declan “Decky” McAleenan after it was announced he would be fighting Firat Haco Dogan at Cage Legacy 3 in Cork, Ireland. Declan’s goes into this fight full of confidence, after winning his second professional fight at Cage Warriors 80 beating Thomas Terdjman by way of submission in round 2.
Combat Vision MMA asked Declan about the fight being announced and fighting for cage legacy.
“I was happy to get on the Cage Legacy card. I have dealt a lot with Declan Kenna in the past, as some of the junior fighters that I coach, have fought on his K-1 shows and judging by them he runs a great show”
Declan was asked about his Cage Legacy 3 opponent Firat Haco Dogan, in particular, had he seen anything in his opponent’s fighting style that he would be looking to exploit?
“To be honest, I don’t know much, I know he’s coming out of all stars in Sweden, which is a massive gym so he should be ready for a good scrap when he gets here. I don’t watch or care about who I fight, that’s my coaches job, I trust them completely to make the right calls and adjustments in my training to get me ready to take him out”
Combat Vision MMA asked Declan if the strategy had been laid out for this fight in training camp?
“We are only early in this training camp. But, I’m flying at the minute. I have really never felt better in training, everyday I’m getting better at every aspect of the game”
Declan comes into this fight full of confidence after a terrific performance against Thomas Terdjman at Cage warriors 80. Combat Vision MMA asked Declan how happy he was with his performance on the night?
“Yeah I’ll be coming into this fight to make another statement. To be honest, I’m happy enough with the Cage Warriors performance considering I took that fight on 3 weeks notice coming off a 14 month layoff due to an injury. There was a lot of ring rust in that fight, I was just happy to put on a good show and get the stoppage. But, that’s not half of what I can do. That’s why I’m looking forward to this fight, I got rid of the rust and I’m getting a full camp to get ready for it”
Declan was asked about the experience of Cage Warriors in only his second professional fight and witnessing the setup they can provide?
“Fighting on big shows is where I need to be. I loved every minute of the Cage Warriors fight, it doesn’t get much better than the O2 in London. But, I’m looking forward to fighting back in Ireland again, it’s my home, I love to fight here. It makes it easier for all the people travelling for support. So I’d like to thank Cage Legacy for giving me the opportunity”
